Southwold Lodge Re-opens

After several weeks of preparation the Southwold Lodge No 1228 which closed in January 2003 re- opened on Sunday 3rd April 2005 at 11.35pm.

The Lodge which is situated in the Royal British Legion Club Blackmill Road Southwold was opened by the East Suffolk PGL, and after the opening ceremony. 5 new members were admitted.

The re-opening day was a great success with 30 Brothers in attendance during the meeting including the new brothers

Thanks were given to other lodges for their support. The Lodge were honoured to have in attendance the Deputy Grand Primo Sir John Richardson and the Grand Secretary Hon Sir Ken Hammerton and they were thanked for coming and giving the Lodge a great boost and kick-start.

The Lodge which formerly met on Wednesday evenings will now meet on alternate Sundays at 12 noon - 2pm. We hope the Lodge will go from strength to strength and may once again meet weekly. Members old and new will be heartily welcomed. Call Bro Graham Lewis on 01502 722829 for details.

The Southwold Lodge which is one of the oldest Lodges functioning under the GLE Ltd banner was given its Dispensation at the December Grand Lodge meeting in 1896 and was constituted and opened on the 13th January 1897

The Lodge at that time was opened with assistance from Lodges from Lowestoft, The Southwold Lodge is still in possession of the original minute book from that day and indeed every minute book to the present day, and a photograph of the opening night in l897 is still hung in the Lodge to this day.
